Sylvania SilverStar High Performance Halogen Fog Light Capsule is designed provides wider beam pattern and are mounted lower than headlights. It operates with an internal gas pressure of several atmospheres which significantly reduces the rate of tungsten evaporation. This illuminate below the normal line of sight to minimize reflected light which hassle higher filament temperatures with greater luminance and efficacy. It has a combined effect of higher pressure and the halogen cycle which gives halogen fog light much longer life.
Nice & Bright- don’t last as long,
My bulbs (fog lamps) lasted on average a year. I wrote sylvania and here is what they said.
Thank you for your inquiry.
I am sorry to hear that you have experienced failure of your SilverStar fog
lights. The SilverStars are a performance, premium halogen that has a shorter
life span than the standard version. The shorter life span is directly related
to the performance nature of the lamps. The blue absorption coating on the
glass contributes to the crisp white light emitted, but also traps heat inside
the capsule, causing the filament to burn out more quickly, thus decreasing the
life. As with most high performance products, there is a trade-off between the
higher performance and the life hours, unfortunately. The SilverStar product
works harder (not burns hotter, however) to give the whiter, brighter light and
that impacts the life hours.
The life expectancy of the 880ST is dependent on the driver’s use of the lights,
which vary by season, time of day and number of miles driven. The life hours
of the 880ST is rated at 100 hours

GARBAGE!!!,
Hey it wouldn’t let me leave 0 stars! >( Yeah I agree with the other reviewers. These bulbs are bad! For the past year or two I’ve had a solid HID fog light kit I got off Amazon, actually. That gets a 5/5. These get a 0/5. They are SEVERELY overpriced & are NOT noticeably brighter to the degree that they’re worth any extra money than the crap stock ones u can get for a couple of bucks at the local auto parts place. I remember contacting Sylvania after one of them prematurely burnt out after some time. The lady responsible for my inquiry, after learning that they had been shipped, dismissed my inquiry due to the fact they had been shipped in the mail & not picked up from some local parts place. She, in a sense, cited the shipping & not the very short life span/ bad quality of the bulbs as the reason they prematurely burnt out. Yeah, alright. On my specific vehicle the “Silverstar” thing is a big scam! They appear whiter but are not that much noticeably brighter. I think the standard Sylvania Cool Blue bulbs were the best out of anything I tried. Do yourself a favor & stay FAR AWAY from the Sylvania bulb trap & BUY AN HID KIT OFF THE WEB!!! They’re ridiculously brighter & my entire HID headlight kit cost about as much as a set of supposedly bright Silverstar bulbs. Alright maybe $10 to $15 more but that’s not a lot. & I’ve had the kit for over a year with little to no problems, 3x the light output, & a fraction of the power consumption. Just looked on the web: … In one fellow customer’s review Sylvania told him the expected life span of this bulb is 100 hours. HID Xenon bulbs should last 2000 hours >D Steer clear of these dinosaur bulbs!

A nice bright bulb that matches my headlights. I like the Sylvania bulbs, they arent as blue as some bulbs but they have a nice bright light.
